Group J defines the American philosophy: Go big or go home.
This is the "Frontier Group." You will experience the extremes of the host nation here: the raw, passionate energy of the Midwest, the sheer opulence of Texas, and the sophisticated tech-hub of the West Coast.
If you want a group-stage trip that feels like three distinct vacations, Group J is your lane. The catch is logistics: you will cross time zones, deal with long airport days, and make the rental-car decision twice. Plan it right and you get iconic stadiums, elite food, and an unforgettable coast-to-heartland contrast.
This guide focuses on the travel reality: where to base, how to move between cities, what matchday actually looks like, and the budget levers that matter most. Team assignments and official kickoff times can shift until FIFA’s final confirmations, so the strategy here is built to stay correct even as fixtures update.
The Group J "Frontier Route"
Kansas City ✈️ Dallas ✈️ San Francisco
Forget the trains. This group spans 1,500 miles. You will need multi-city flight bookings and rental cars to conquer these three massive host regions.
01
Schedule & Tickets
Group J planning starts with a simple truth: travel time is the tax. Choose your bases first, then build your flights around them. When official fixtures are published/updated, you can slot dates into this structure without rethinking the whole trip.

Multi-City Travel Strategy
Group J has the largest geographical footprint of any group. Public transit is limited in KC and Dallas, making rental cars an absolute necessity.
Think of this as a three-hop tour: fly in, set up a base, do matchday, then reset in the next city. Trying to “wing it” is how you end up paying surge prices for flights, last-minute hotels, and rideshare chaos outside stadium gates.
Airport Cheat Sheet (Pick the Right Arrival)
Your airport choice affects everything: hotel location, ground transport cost, and whether matchday becomes a stress test. For Group J, optimize for stadium proximity in the Bay Area, and for flight frequency in Dallas.
Kansas City
MCI
Best for simplicity. Downtown is an easy base; Arrowhead is a drive on matchday.
Dallas / Arlington
DFW (or DAL)
DFW has the most options. DAL can be faster if your airline route fits.
SF Bay Area
SJC / SFO / OAK
SJC is closest to Levi’s. SFO is best for international. OAK is sometimes cheaper.
Both Arrowhead Stadium (KC) and AT&T Stadium (Dallas) are located far from their respective city centers. Ride-share prices will surge—renting is better.
Rental Cars
Essential for KC and Dallas. Book SUVs with high-power AC.
$60-120 USD / Day
Multi-City Flights
Book as a single itinerary to save on baggage fees.
$400-700 Total
RAIL
Caltrain (SF Only)
The only reliable rail in the group. Connects SF to Levi's Stadium.
$10-20 USD
The "Trans-Continental" Jumps
These cities are not driveable in a single day. You must fly to stay fresh for match days.

Accommodation Strategy
Group J requires a split approach. San Francisco is the budget killer, while Dallas and Kansas City offer sprawling options that require a car for access.
Your goal is to minimize dead time. In Dallas and Kansas City, that means choosing a base with nightlife and food so you can enjoy non-match days without commuting. In the Bay Area, that means choosing convenience first for matchweek, then adding San Francisco as a day trip.
Dallas / Arlington
Texas Scale
Book 9 Months Out
Best Area: Uptown Dallas (For nightlife and dining)
Stadium Access: Arlington (Stay here ONLY if you want to walk to the stadium)
Warning: Dallas is huge. Traffic on I-30 can double your travel time.
ESTARequired for Visa Waiver Program countries (UK, EU, Australia, etc.). Cost: $21 USD. Approval: Up to 72 hours. Valid for 2 years.
B1/B2 VisaRequired if not ESTA eligible. Wait times for interviews can be 6+ months in some countries. Apply immediately if you need one.

Insider Knowledge
📢
Arrowhead is LOUD
Kansas City holds the Guinness World Record for crowd noise (142.2 decibels). It is deafening. If you have sensitive hearing, bring high-fidelity earplugs.
🌉
The Levi's Location
Levi's Stadium is in Santa Clara, 45 miles south of San Francisco. It can take 2 hours in traffic. Stay in San Jose or Palo Alto for match days.
🔥
The Texas Heat
Dallas will be 40°C (104°F) in July. AT&T Stadium is air-conditioned, but the walk from parking lots is brutal. Hydrate 24 hours before match day.
🥩
BBQ Etiquette
In KC, it's all about Burnt Ends. In Dallas, it's Brisket. Don't ask for sauce in Texas—the meat is supposed to speak for itself.
Team-Specific Travel Notes (Projected Group J)
These are practical travel patterns to plan around—where the fan energy concentrates, what sells out first, and which base cities keep matchweek stress low.
ARG
Argentina
The loudest traveling contingent—assume higher ticket pressure and packed pregame zones.
Prioritize early flight bookings to avoid price spikes around matchdays.
Kansas City tailgating ramps early; plan transport and arrive 3+ hours pre-kick.
In the Bay Area, base near Caltrain (San Jose/Santa Clara) to move with the crowd.
Power & Light (KC)Uptown DallasSan Jose / Santa Clara
ALG
Algeria
High-energy supporters with strong diaspora presence in major US metros.
Expect late planning to get expensive fast—book flexible hotel rates early.
Dallas/Arlington is car-first; parking strategy matters more than distance on maps.
Bring heat strategy for Texas: sun protection, hydration plan, and shaded breaks.
Downtown KCLas Colinas / IrvingSan Jose / Mountain View
AUT
Austria
Organized travelers who tend to value efficiency, comfort, and clean logistics.
Build an open-jaw itinerary (MCI → DFW → SFO/SJC) and treat cities as mini-trips.
Choose a hotel base that reduces commute time over “best neighborhood” hype.
Levi’s matchday: Caltrain + VTA beats rideshare queues after full-time.
Crossroads (KC)Uptown DallasPalo Alto / Santa Clara
JOR
Jordan
Underdog energy—great atmosphere, with fans often clustering in specific bars and watch parties.
If you’re stacking matches, protect recovery time: early nights before travel days.
Kansas City and Dallas are easier with a rental; split costs with other fans.
Pack layers for the Bay Area—foggy evenings can feel cold after Texas heat.

Group J Packing Essentials
Pack for three climates and two matchday styles: open-air heat and humidity in Kansas City, intense outdoor heat in Dallas, and cool Bay Area evenings that can feel like fall after sunset.
For Kansas City and Dallas/Arlington, yes—these stadium areas are car-first and transit options are limited on matchdays. In the SF Bay Area, you can do matchday without a car by using Caltrain/VTA, but a rental can still help for sightseeing and flexibility.
Fly. The distances are massive and driving is a full-day (or multi-day) commitment. Build an open-jaw or multi-city itinerary (MCI → DFW → SFO/SJC) and treat each city as a separate mini-trip.
Kansas City: MCI. Dallas: DFW (largest connectivity) or DAL (convenient for some domestic routes). SF Bay Area: SFO for international links, SJC for proximity to Levi’s Stadium, and OAK as a sometimes-cheaper alternative.
Prioritize San Jose, Santa Clara, Mountain View, or Palo Alto for the easiest matchday logistics. Staying in San Francisco is great for tourism but turns matchday into a long commute.
Plan to be in the stadium district 2–3 hours before kickoff. Arrowhead tailgating starts earlier; Dallas traffic and parking queues are real; and Levi’s is easiest if you arrive before the biggest transit surges.
San Francisco-area lodging. Hotel rates can dominate your total trip cost. If you care about budget, base in San Jose/Santa Clara and use SF for one or two tourist days instead of your match-week base.
Assume hot, humid conditions outdoors even if the stadium is air-conditioned. Hydrate the day before, use sunscreen, and avoid long walks in peak afternoon heat—especially from remote parking lots.
For Group J, lock hotels in the Bay Area first (they spike earliest), then book the multi-city flights once you have dates. Kansas City and Dallas generally have more hotel supply and flexible pricing than the Bay Area.
